Andrew Balmford is professor of conservation science in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge. He is coeditor of Conservation in a Changing World, and he lives in Ely, England, with his wife, two sons, and a lot of animals.

Ecological Optismism?

It is nice to read a book on ecology that contains optimism. The book is a review of several projects around the world where some timely interventions reversed some trends leading to rapid species loss or environmental degradation. There is then analysis of why things worked. The writing is clear. The stories interesting and quite varied.
