About the Author
Physician, columnist, writer, and former political advisor, Dr Ginni Mansberg is Medical Advisor for Practical Parenting and Women's Health magazines and on TV Sunrise, and The Morning Show, the 'in-house' doctor for That's Life magazine, and resident doctor of Body & Soul radio. Born in 1968 in Sydney, Australia, Dr Mansberg is co-author (with Anne Thomson) of the book Why Am I So Tired?

A lifecoach for women with too much on their plate

This is a book written for busy women, who are juggling too many balls in the air and not making themselves a priority. Written by a GP, it reads like a rev up from your best friend crossed with a doctor's knowledge about what works. Although it's not a long book, and it covers a lot of bases, I was impressed by the quality of the advice, which moved beyond the usual women's magazine platitudes into specific and helpful tips that can genuinely make a difference.

The chapters cover a number of specific topics: exercise, sleep, a healthy diet, managing stress, relationships and your physical appearance. But what I really like is the way she comes at it from your perspective. How do you find the time (and motivation!) to exercise - it's not just the usual "get up earlier". Getting a good night's sleep might be about learning relaxation techniques, but it may also be about getting your children to sleep better, so she gives advice on that. When she talks about keeping a gratitude diary as one technique to manage stress, she talks about how to be grateful even when you're totally stressed about money or being a solo mother. She gives you hints to streamline household chores, weightloss tips you might not have tried and talks about how to handle toxic female friends.

Dr Mansberg begins and ends the book with a list of health checks you should have (as well as how to interpret them and why they're important), with the idea being that as you follow the advice in your book, you should see a marked improvement by the time you reach the end.

I've read a number of self help type books, but this one for me stood out, because it's so practical and direct.

Fabulous advice from a Doctor who cares about the causes, not just the symptoms. It covers things like relationship stresses, the need for exercise, the need for sleep and why people are burnt out
