More and more women are shunning the institution of marriage. In fact, marriage rates have been declining for years and the percentages of never married young adults has reached a record low of 47 percent. With more women in the workforce, sharp increases in cohabitation, single parenthood, out of wedlock childbirth and skyrocketing divorce rates, fewer women than ever opt to tie the knot.

Timely and relevant, Don't Say I Do! challenges the institution of marriage as the first choice for women in the postmodern era. It reveals that the rules of the game have changed drastically; our lifestyles have loosened and become hectic. It will inspire women to think for themselves seriously consider alternatives for achieving satisfying, rewarding lives and reclaim their strength in today's changing world.

DO read Don't Say I Do!
By Mary
As a single mom with one failed marriage behind me, I had to get my hands on "Don't Say I Do!" In my heart, I know I don't need a man to be fulfilled and find joy, but culturally I still feel the pressure to live up to the antiquated idea of traditional marriage. When my ex cheated on me, I went through denial, guilt and, finally, anger. We tried counseling, but I could never fully forgive and trust him again, so we ended it. This book finally helped me understand why people cheat and why our world is seeing such high rates of divorce today. It makes me sad that our old-fashioned ideas are leading to dysfunctional, destructive relationships. Marriage as we know it may very well no longer be a possibility for most. This book says that may not be a bad thing. Relationships can still have depth and love even if they don't look like they did fifty years ago. I encourage all women to read this. Even if you're one of the few who is happily married, this book will help you understand what the majority of women face and perhaps help you support your friends going through divorces or relationships gone sour.

When my marriage ended, I felt incomplete. I wondered if I could feel complete without a man in my life. With two young kids, dating isn't easy right now. But Don't Say I Do encouraged me to give up focusing on my idea of relationships and marriage and just be where I'm at right now. When and if I find someone, my next relationship might involve living together apart, long or short term cohabitation, or something else. And that's okay. Times they are a `changin. Get on board and embrace the change. Read this book!

I wish I had this book last year during divorce!
By J. Cipale
My ex divorced me last year after cheating on me & while I was still recovering from a debilitating illness. My 2 older children were brainwashed by him & refuse to have anything to do with me or my extended family (loving grandparents who spoiled them rotten & an aunt who was like a 2nd mom to them). My youngest is 8; she is still my pride & joy & wants to live with me. However, in order to do this, I have to get my life together. When my life was falling apart (due to the divorce & illness), I felt guilty for everything going on. After therapy, I have realized this is not the case. I didn't do anything wrong-HE did!

At the time of divorce, I was ordered by the court to leave the family home. After I did this, my sister could see that I was suffering emotionally & mentally, & she told me to borrow some books from the library regarding divorced women. How I wish this book was available then! This book has encouraged me even more toward a new & better life than I had before!

At the time of the custody hearing, I told the judge of my future plans: to get my well-deserved SSI (which I did, thanks to a wonderful attorney), attend college (after 20 years, I was quite afraid to, but it is one of the best things I have ever done for me!) with the intent of getting a one-year Certificate of Completion as a Medical Records Office Assistant (I have changed my goal to an AAS in Business Technology). The judge said that he believed that I would do what I set out to do, but unfortunately, he could not give me custody of my daughter at that time. He has told me not to rule out the possibility of getting custody in a year or 2.

This book has empowered me even more than I thought possible! I borrowed this book at the library, but I plan to buy it (maybe several) to keep in my personal library. I am in the Beta Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (Honor Society), & we will be working on a project/presentation against bullying. Not just in schools, but also adult bullying (aka abuse). I plan on taking a copy (or two) to a local shelter I know of, with the hope that other victims will know they can do anything!

This is the best book to share with women facing life changes of separation (& possibly divorce) or even to encourage women that they are capable of anything. Women are strong-stronger than men mentally & emotionally! This book will show them the way! THANK YOU, MS. GADISH!
