Tyler Nash is a college student who turned to Bill Jelen for spreadsheet help. She convinced him to compile their question-and-answer sessions into a comprehensive guide for fellow novice Excel users. She lives in St. Augustine, Florida. Bill Jelen is an Excel expert at www.mrexcel.com and the author of numerous books, including Excel Gurus Gone Wild, Pivot Table Data Crunching, and several titles in the Excel for Professionals series. He lives in Akron, Ohio. Kevin Jones has been building applications in too many languages for too many years starting with IBM mainframe Basic Assembly Language. He is known for his ability to use Visual Basic to get Excel to do the most unusual and unexpected things. As “zorvek” he has answered close to 10,000 questions about Excel and Visual Basic on various online forums. NASA wouldn't take him so he spends his free evenings with his daughter Emily at the theater watching 3D superhero films. Kevin is a Microsoft MVP in Excel.
Tom Urtis is owner of Atlas Programming Management (www.atlaspm.com), a Microsoft Office business solutions company specializing in Excel project development and training. Tom also created the Excel Aptitude Test (called XAT, xat.atlaspm.com) to measure Excel skills and know-how. Don't Fear the Spreadsheet

This book is excellent! I have always lacked confidence when it comes to working in Excel, however after reading this book I feel so much better informed. Every step is easily detailed and there are so many shortcuts and tips. It's definitely worth the money!

Awesome Excel tips.

VisiCalc was my first spreadsheet. I moved on to Lotus 1-2-3, then switched to Quattro Pro -- back when it was first sold by Borland -- and I have continued to use it ever since. I run my own business (a one-woman operation), so I choose my own software. I'm not an expert with spreadsheets, but I can get what I need done with QPro and have never felt the need to change. Truthfully, I've tried to stay away from Excel as much as possible, but it is inflected on me occasionally. I wanted to know more about Excel, so that I would be prepared when I was forced to deal with it.
So, I picked up this book (DFTS) and couldn't put it down. DFTS points out many time-saving shortcuts which anyone can start using immediately. It even clearly explains difficult features, step by step. I admit I never understood VLOOKUP tables before. Now I don't know why I thought they were a big deal. Ditto Pivot Tables. I feel the more advanced features will take more study for me to use fully, but DFTS puts you on the right path to success.
After reading DFTS I'm hooked on Excel. I also bought Bill Jelen's other book: Learn Excel 2007 through 2010 from Mr. Excel and can't wait to start reading it. I recommend his website: [...] There are a ton of free videos there to complement both books and each one is only a few minutes, so you won't be bored and you'll learn a lot to make using Excel easier.
Another author you should check out is Michael Girvin -- he's mentioned in DFTS -- and I found his excellent videos at youtube.com (search for Excel is Fun). There's a wealth of info on Microsoft Office here, too.
Whether you need to start learning Excel (or use it to better advantage), pick up Don't Fear the Spreadsheet. It's awesome.

Great intro and reference for Excel

This is a great book for beginners and even for average users of Excel. It's so easy to forget things if we don't use them often enough.
