About the Author
Frank H. T. Rhodes is President Emeritus of Cornell University. A geologist by training, his numerous published works on geology and education include the books Origins: The Search for Our Prehistoric Past, Earth: A Tenant's Manual,The Creation of the Future: The Role of the American University, all from Cornell, The Evolution of Life, and Language of the Earth. He holds the Bigsby Medal of the Geological Society, the Ian Campbell Medal of the American Geological Institute, and the Clark-Kerr Medal of the University of California–Berkeley. He holds more than thirty honorary degrees from universities both in the United States and abroad.

Good intro, could have used better editing.

I enjoyed the book but I felt like there was many times where the same information was repeated. A minor annoyance in an otherwise worthwhile read.

This is a highly timely, informative and provocative book concerning the formation of our solar system and earlhly environment, our world's current sustainability challenges, and projected sustainability outlook for future generations of the human species.
This book should be on the "must reading list" for all upper class highschool students, college undergraduate students, voting Americans, and especially our members of the U.S. Congress.

The history of the universe in plain language.

Frank Rhodes writes an awe-inspiring account about the creation of the universe, and follows it through to a consideration of the state of our own planet in today's environment. You will thoroughly enjoy this well-written book, and will come away with a better understanding. It is very accessible, even to those who do not have knowledge of science.
